“My Father’s Business: Taking Ministry to the Marketplace” Workshop – March 19

Surveys reveal that most Christians feel they are not being trained for their calling in the workplace through the local church. Further, many Christians are frustrated because they don’t see a fit for their gifts in traditional ministry settings. Unfortunately, they don’t realize they are called and anointed to minister in the marketplace. Others recognize their marketplace calling, but don’t know how to fully walk in the authority of their calling outside the church.

Saturday, March 19th in Villa Rica, GA I will be facilitating “My Father’s Business: Taking Ministry to the Marketplace.” This luncheon and workshop was designed is to equip Christian catalysts to find and fulfill their calling in the marketplace as an employee or entrepreneur. When Christians maximize their spiritual and economic potential in business, families, churches, and the community all benefit. The Last Shall Be First by Patrice Tsague

So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I’m the least in my father’s house. ~ Judges 6:15

by Patrice Tsague

Have you ever felt like the black sheep of your family? Are you surprised by the prophetic words that the Lord has spoken to you concerning His will for your life? Do you feel that your business is among the least in the industry?

I’m always amazed at the people God chooses to use for His purpose, he chooses those you would least expect. In Judges 6, Israel cries to the Lord for help because it is facing defeat in the hands of its enemy due to disobedience. God calls a least likely fellow, Gideon, who, by his own account, is from the weakest clan in Manasseh and the least within his family. However, God calls him “a mighty man of valor“.

Gideon defines his destiny based on where he was born and the family he was from, but God defines it based on His purpose for him. I, like Gideon, was the least likely to succeed in my family. I did not take school very seriously throughout my youth and I played more than I studied. Furthermore, I was raised by a woman who had an 8th grade education and whose first child was born out of wedlock, my father left her when I was a baby, and she became a second wife to a man who was already married. Very few people thought she would amount to anything. In spite of this, she became very successful in business and politics.

We were not a Christian family and my family supported a corrupt government. I even made a case against Christianity while in high school during a class debate because I saw Christians as hypocrites. To many people’s surprise, the Lord would save me, call me to preach the Gospel and start a ministry that teaches people how to do business based on His Word. Now I’m one of the “hypocrites” I once argued against. God has a sense of humor. In spite of all this He calls me “a mighty man of valor“!

You too are a “mighty man of valor“. If you have accepted God’s call to deploy your gifts, skills and abilities for His Glory, and to honor Him in the marketplace, you are God’s mighty man of valor. You are God’s warrior. Your background is insignificant, your circumstances irrelevant, and your smarts unnecessary because God will do it all, He just needs you to yield your members to His use.

God loves taking small, insignificant, least-likely-to-succeed individuals and businesses and turn them into success stories. This way, He and He alone will get the glory for the outcome.

Do you feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities before you but assured of your call? Are you certain of the direction but have limited resources? Are you intimidated by the competition but strong in your faith? Get ready because God is about to make the last first so that He can show you and others that He is God, and God all by Himself. He will elevate whom He chooses. Reflect on the passage below and give Him the Glory for He alone is great.

“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD” (1 Corinthians 1:26-29).

The Exponential Power of Cooperative Ambition

“One can chase a thousand and two can put ten thousand to flight.” ~ Deuteronomy 32:30

I feel very inspired right now. Earlier today I led the first session of a marketplace Bible study for some incredible leaders and entrepreneurs. The long-term potential of this group is even greater than I realized when God first gave me the idea to do it. Here are a few of my thoughts now that the first meeting is over…

Two (or more) minds are often better than just one. Achieving your dreams for you is uplifting, encouraging, and inspirational. However, partnering with others to achieve something unthinkable becomes legendary. As great as your ideas may be, they have the potential to be even much more robust and effective when you are able to combine them with other’s ideas. That’s innovation that makes a difference!

There are enough businesses out there for you to compete with each other. You need to find some entrepreneurs with whom you can complete each other. I call that coopetition.

I love this quote by Napoleon Hill…

“When TWO or MORE people coordinate in a spirit of HARMONY and work toward a definite OBJECTIVE or PURPOSE, they place themselves in position, through the alliance, to absorb POWER directly from the Great Storehouse of INFINITE INTELLIGENCE.”

Whether you call it a mastermind group, board of directors, dream team, or something else, there is great power in joining with other great thinkers in the pursuit of something far greater than what you could conquer on your own. “Lone Rangers” will eventually be strangers to success.

If you desire to maximize the potential of your time, talents and ideas, find some people with whom you can cooperatively pursue significant opportunities. Exponential results are awaiting your business!

Thrive on purpose,

Paul Wilson, Jr.

Called to be in the Marketplace by Patrice Tsague

…Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid from now on you will catch men.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. ~ Luke 5:10-11

by Patrice Tsague

Too often we as Christians have two lives: our church life, where we do our so called ministry and our secular life, where we earn our living. If we feel called to what we consider to be full-time ministry, the immediate assumption is that we are called to be the traditional pastor who must establish a local church or become a foreign missionary. Many have even left their businesses or professions in the marketplace because they believe that the only way to be in full-time ministry is to be a part of the local church staff or be involved in foreign missions. By doing this, some have found themselves outside of the will of God.

Ministry is bigger than the local church; ministry involves every aspect of our society. There are three basic institutions that God has established where ministry must be carried out: the local church, the family, and the marketplace. Among those institutions, the marketplace is the one where we spend most of our time with the majority of unsaved people. Marketplace ministry is carrying out our vocation as a calling, in the name of Christ, with the intent to fulfill the great commandment (Matthew 22:37-38) and the Great Commission. It challenges us to allow Jesus Christ to change us from fishermen to fishers of men.

Many of us who have accepted Christ are still acting as fishermen. We spend most of our time and energy in the marketplace toiling and worrying about how much fish we can catch, we do not realize that we are no longer fishermen but fishers of men. As fishers of men Jesus has already taken the responsibility to ensure that we catch enough fish to make our business profitable, our project successful, or that our campaign for office prevails.

Are you a fisherman or a fisher of men? Are you fulfilling the great commandment and the Great Commission through your business or profession?

I started my career as an entrepreneurship instructor, executive director and founder of a nonprofit youth organization. I was doing good works according to most standards; helping young people learn the skills of business so they could have an alternative to drugs, and providing leadership training to young, aspiring leaders. But in 1995, through a Christian businessman who was operating in his marketplace ministry, I received the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. That led to a personal transformation where I received my marketplace call to use entrepreneurship as a tool to empower the body of Christ and seek and save the lost.

That revelation then led me to develop an entrepreneurship training program called Biblical Entrepreneurship and to restructure the organization my wife and I founded into a service ministry called Nehemiah Project International Ministry which helps people build kingdom businesses in partnership with churches, Christian organizations, and Christian colleges and universities. At that moment I went from being a fisherman to being a fisher of men. By the grace of God, the Lord has blessed us to assist thousands of individuals who are now operating profitable, sustainable and scalable kingdom businesses in the marketplace.

Your transition may not be as drastic; it may not even cause you to change what you are doing. You may only have to change how you are doing what you are already doing or your attitude towards it.

How to identify your marketplace call?

  1. Listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you.
  2. Identify your gifts, skills and abilities.
  3. What do you have a burden for?
  4. Where does your passion lie?
  5. How do you incorporate the great commandment and the Great Commission in the execution of your ministry

Remember there are very few industries and professions where we cannot serve the Lord for the scripture says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17).

Never Give In by Patrice Tsague

For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity. ~ Proverbs 24:16

by Patrice Tsague

Are you overwhelmed by the demands of business? Has surrender come through your mind? Are you tempted to give up?

On October 29, 1941, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited Harrow School to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth, as well as to speak to the students. Many falsely believe that when he was invited to give a speech, Churchill stood before the students and said, Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up” and afterward sat down.

That is not true, Churchill gave an entire speech that expressed the challenges that Britain had faced and its almost defeat. He also did not use the term “give up” but the term “give in”. After he gave an entire speech he concluded with these words,

“But for everyone, surely, what we have gone through in this period–I am addressing myself to the School–surely from this period of ten months, this is the lesson: Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

We stood all alone a year ago, and to many countries it seemed that our account was closed, we were finished. All this tradition of ours, our songs, our School history, this part of the history of this country, were gone and finished and liquidated.

Very different is the mood today. Britain, other nations thought, had drawn a sponge across her slate. But instead our country stood in the gap. There was no flinching and no thought of giving in; and by what seemed almost a miracle to those outside these Islands, though we ourselves never doubted it, we now find ourselves in a position where I say that we can be sure that we have only to persevere to conquer

You sang here a verse of a School Song: you sang that extra verse written in my honor, which I was very greatly complimented by and which you have repeated today. But there is one word in it I want to alter – I wanted to do so last year, but I did not venture to. It is the line: “Not less we praise in darker days.”

I have obtained the Head Master’s permission to alter darker to sterner. “Not less we praise in sterner days.”

Do not let us speak of darker days: let us speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days; these are great days–the greatest days our country has ever lived; and we must all thank God that we have been allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our race”. [Source: http://www.school-for-champions.com]

God will use what He is taking you through to shape history and impact the marketplace. So do not be discouraged nor dismayed, but faithfully work and allow him to take you to the end so He may be glorified through your life.

For those of you who have taken Principles of Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE I), you will know that since 1997 my conclusive statement has been “never give up, never give up, never ever ever ever ever give up”. Whether a problem is your fault or not, no matter how great the error or the sin, never give up. Sure you may change businesses, you may go through failure, but never give up. To give up is to allow the trial of the journey to cause you to resign from pursuing God’s plan for your life; it is to fall down on the canvas and refuse to get back up. It is to completely surrender. Do not give the enemy any satisfaction but fight to the end because, as you are well aware, in the end we win because our Lord has already conquered the enemy.

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).

Stand by Patrice Tsague

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. ~ Ephesians 6:13

by Patrice Tsague

Are you facing pressures that are seeking to push you back? Are you tempted to give up on the assignment the Lord has given you?

It is not uncommon for Biblical Entrepreneurs to face pressures that tempt them to want to give up or to question whether they should continue their business or the project they have undertaken. Success is never achieved without external resistance. Do not assume that just because your cause is righteous, everything and everyone will cooperate with you; actually, sometimes the more righteous your cause, the greater the external pressures.

How then should you respond when those external pressures continue to beat on you like a bad tornado? Just stand. Yes, just continue to resist them by remaining firm in your posture and focused on your direction. To stand means to rise to an upright position on your feet or as specified (freedictionary.com). The assumption here is that you are being attacked and pressured – not just because of what you are doing – but because of the righteous stands you are taking. Of course if you face pressure and do not have a righteous position, you will not be able to withstand the pressures because you do not have the strength of Christ on your side.

How do you stand in the midst of the pressures of business and ministry?

1. Rejoice in the Lord because the joy of the Lord is your strength.
2. Put on the whole armor of God – what is the armor?

  • Truth
  • Righteousness
  • Peace
  • Faith
  • Salvation
  • The Word of God
  • Prayer in the spirit

3. Know that you are in spiritual warfare
4. Boldly preach the Gospel

There will come a time of complete victory when you no longer feel the resistance – not because it does not exist – but because you have been so perfected by past pressures and your spiritual maturity is so great that you begin to view trials the way Apostle Paul viewed them. Here is what Paul said about his trials:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.

“Therefore I take pleasure in my infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecution, in distresses, for Christ’s sake for when I am weak then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10

May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you the desires of your heart, not just to stand, but to overcome so that you may be able to share His goodness in your circle of influence in the marketplace.

Bring Christian Entrepreneurship Training to Your Church, Community, or Conference

As part of my 2011 Crusade vs Unemployment, I will be be traveling to churches teaching people how to be Biblical Entrepreneurs. So what is Biblical Entrepreneurship? Nehemiah Project International Ministries, Inc., which specializes in Christian Entrepreneurship training describes it as:

A Biblically-based process of identifying opportunities, taking calculated risks, solving problems, and exercising business stewardship for biblical profit. It involves utilizing the gifts, skills and treasures that the Lord has given us to establish a kingdom business.[click here to learn more]

My goal is to help Christian catalysts get on mission in the marketplace, especially in the area of entrepreneurship. If that includes you, I would like to connect with you to see how we can bring this transformational program to your church, community, or conference.

Strengthen Yourself in the Lord by Patrice Tsague

…but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. ~ 1 Samuel 30:6

by Patrice Tsague

Have you ever faced personal tragedy or a business loss that led you into great distress and even depression? Are you going through one right now? Where do you go when you feel overwhelmed by the challenges of life and business?

In I Samuel 30, David, who will soon become the second king of Israel, is faced with a personal tragedy that could lead to his personal army turning against him.  He has just been rejected by the Philistines (I Samuel 29) and as he returns to Ziklag where his family, the families of his personal army, and their entire provision was based, he discovers that the place has been burned and their family members, including his two wives, have been taken captive by the Amalekites. David is in great distress, not just because of the loss, but because his people want to take it out on him.  Although angry and in great distress, David does not take the matter into his own hands but rather strengthens himself in the Lord.

To strengthen yourself in the Lord is to find strength in God’s word and His promises. There are times when everyone seems to turn against you and there seems to be no one or no where to turn to, but to the Lord.  When everything seems to fall apart find strength in the Lord.  Allow His word and promises to revive your soul and spirit.  Meditate upon His goodness, mercy, power and faithfulness.  What challenges are you facing today?   Consider the following scriptures as you encourage yourself in the Lord today.

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help?  My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand.  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.” Psalm 121

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;  and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.  my son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor detest His correction; for whom the LORD loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:5-12

Jobs Ain’t Coming Back… Now What?

If you were waiting for a Christmas miracle like corporate jobs coming back and unemployment returning to the 4 – 5% range, I’m sorry to disappoint you. It ain’t going to happen… at least no time soon. The most recent US jobs report revealed that unemployment has risen to 9.8%. And to add to that “uplifting” news, Federal Reserve Chief Ben Bernanke recently said in his recent 60 Minutes interview that the unemployment rate may not get back to previous levels for another 4 or 5 years.

Sometimes you have to create your own miracle. Work with me to use entrepreneurship to attack unemployment. Get more details at www.3hrive.com.
