Maximize Your Moments!

This is article #5 coinciding with the release of my book, Dream B.I.G. in 3D: How to Pursue a Bold, Innovative, God-Inspired Life! Enjoy!
“Quality vs Quantity”
An incredible amount of money is spent every year by people on health care and wellness products that they hope will extend their lives. My question is what good is a life that’s extended if it’s not a life that’s well-lived?
Did you realize that U.S. retail sales for the consumer packaged goods health and wellness industry reached more than $112 billion in 2008, representing growth of 9% over 2007 (Source: Natural Marketing Institute)? Add in all the gym memberships, personal trainers, exercise equipment, fancy contraptions, etc. and we could be talking well over $500 billion that people spend every year hoping to squeeze a few extra days or years out of a life in which they have no control over when or how it’s going to end… Amazing!
Too bad we don’t spend more of our thoughts, time, talents, and treasures investing in improving the meaningfulness and significance of our lives to leave a mark or make a difference. People who are focused on leaving a positive legacy understand that every decision they make now counts toward the future.
“Live like today could be your last, but plan as if you were going to live 100 more years.”
Some people will take this statement to mean everyday I should engage in extreme activities and overindulge in every kind of sensual pleasure that’s humanly possible. That doesn’t even come close to what this means. This statement reflects a focus on maximizing each day to do everything a person can to improve the quality and significance of their own lives and others.
Time is the most precious commodity we have. We can’t get it back after it’s gone. We can’t reproduce it. We can’t store it (no matter what AT&T Wireless says). We must value and cherish it during the moments we have it. Make sure you’re doing everything you can to get the greatest return from the time you have.
The fact is some life-changing opportunities only occur once in a lifetime. Are you preparing for yours or are you frivolously allowing time to slip away by engaging in meaningless activities? When your opportunity knocks be prepared to answer the door.
“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”~Psalm 90:12
The quality of a person’s life is not based on how long they live, but how well they live. Based on how much money is currently spent in the health and wellness industry, comparatively I wonder how much money people are spending on insuring that before they die they completely exhaust their gifts, talents, skills, resources and opportunities in ways that will leave a multi-generational impact.
Stop worrying so much about the time you have left and take advantage of the time you have been given.
Don’t waste your life…
