Never Give In by Patrice Tsague

Are you overwhelmed by the demands of business? Has surrender come through your mind? Are you tempted to give up?

On October 29, 1941, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited Harrow School to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth, as well as to speak to the students. Many falsely believe that when he was invited to give a speech, Churchill stood before the students and said, Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up” and afterward sat down.

That is not true, Churchill gave an entire speech that expressed the challenges that Britain had faced and its almost defeat. He also did not use the term “give up” but the term “give in”. After he gave an entire speech he concluded with these words,

“But for everyone, surely, what we have gone through in this period–I am addressing myself to the School–surely from this period of ten months, this is the lesson: Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

We stood all alone a year ago, and to many countries it seemed that our account was closed, we were finished. All this tradition of ours, our songs, our School history, this part of the history of this country, were gone and finished and liquidated.

Very different is the mood today. Britain, other nations thought, had drawn a sponge across her slate. But instead our country stood in the gap. There was no flinching and no thought of giving in; and by what seemed almost a miracle to those outside these Islands, though we ourselves never doubted it, we now find ourselves in a position where I say that we can be sure that we have only to persevere to conquer

You sang here a verse of a School Song: you sang that extra verse written in my honor, which I was very greatly complimented by and which you have repeated today. But there is one word in it I want to alter – I wanted to do so last year, but I did not venture to. It is the line: “Not less we praise in darker days.”

I have obtained the Head Master’s permission to alter darker to sterner. “Not less we praise in sterner days.”

Do not let us speak of darker days: let us speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days; these are great days–the greatest days our country has ever lived; and we must all thank God that we have been allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our race”. God will use what He is taking you through to shape history and impact the marketplace. So do not be discouraged nor dismayed, but faithfully work and allow him to take you to the end so He may be glorified through your life.

For those of you who have taken Principles of Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE I), you will know that since 1997 my conclusive statement has been “never give up, never give up, never ever ever ever ever give up”. Whether a problem is your fault or not, no matter how great the error or the sin, never give up. Sure you may change businesses, you may go through failure, but never give up. To give up is to allow the trial of the journey to cause you to resign from pursuing God’s plan for your life; it is to fall down on the canvas and refuse to get back up. It is to completely surrender. Do not give the enemy any satisfaction but fight to the end because, as you are well aware, in the end we win because our Lord has already conquered the enemy.

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).

Are you facing pressures that are seeking to push you back? Are you tempted to give up on the assignment the Lord has given you?

It is not uncommon for Biblical Entrepreneurs to face pressures that tempt them to want to give up or to question whether they should continue their business or the project they have undertaken. Success is never achieved without external resistance. Do not assume that just because your cause is righteous, everything and everyone will cooperate with you; actually, sometimes the more righteous your cause, the greater the external pressures.

How then should you respond when those external pressures continue to beat on you like a bad tornado? Just stand. Yes, just continue to resist them by remaining firm in your posture and focused on your direction. To stand means to rise to an upright position on your feet or as specified (freedictionary.com). The assumption here is that you are being attacked and pressured – not just because of what you are doing – but because of the righteous stands you are taking. Of course if you face pressure and do not have a righteous position, you will not be able to withstand the pressures because you do not have the strength of Christ on your side.

How do you stand in the midst of the pressures of business and ministry?

1. Rejoice in the Lord because the joy of the Lord is your strength.
2. Put on the whole armor of God – what is the armor?

  • Truth
  • Righteousness
  • Peace
  • Faith
  • Salvation
  • The Word of God
  • Prayer in the spirit

3. Know that you are in spiritual warfare
4. Boldly preach the Gospel

There will come a time of complete victory when you no longer feel the resistance – not because it does not exist – but because you have been so perfected by past pressures and your spiritual maturity is so great that you begin to view trials the way Apostle Paul viewed them. Here is what Paul said about his trials:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.

“Therefore I take pleasure in my infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecution, in distresses, for Christ’s sake for when I am weak then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10

May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you the desires of your heart, not just to stand, but to overcome so that you may be able to share His goodness in your circle of influence in the marketplace.

The Sun Stands Still by Patrice Tsague

At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped… ~ Joshua 10:12-13

Are you in need of a miracle?  Do you believe in miracles?  As Biblical Entrepreneurs, miracles must be a part of our worldview because they are a part of the strategy God uses in Scripture to advance His will.  These miracles can be considered God-Factors; incidents when God intervenes in the affairs of His chosen to accomplish His will.

In Joshua 10, there is a coalition of five kings who bond to defeat the children of Israel after learning how invincible they have been. Joshua and his army travel all night and without rest to go battle the five kings; he needs a miracle to ensure the kings’ defeat.  In the midst of the battle, Joshua prays to the Lord and declares, “‘Sun stand still over Gibeon; and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.’”  So the sun stands still and does not go down until Joshua completely destroys his enemies (Joshua 10:12b and 13).  Joshua needs a miracle; he asks for it and receives it.

Some argue that it is impossible for the sun to stand still therefore this story must not be true, but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).  If we can believe that there is a God who created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1), can we not believe that this same God can cause solar systems to act as He chooses?  Of course the sun does not move around the earth, rather the earth moves around the sun.  The sun stopped because there was a delay in the earth rotation which caused it to shine for an unusual long period of time, long enough for Joshua to accomplish his objectives and recognize that God granted his request.

What miracle are you in need of this year? Do you need significant cash infusion by a certain date? Do you need a significant increase in revenue? Do you need special favor with investors or the bank? Do you need special grace from your vendors or creditors? Do you need a certain sector of the economy to start performing? Do you need a certain government regulation to be passed? If He can cause the sun to stand still for Joshua, who knows what He can do for you? Whatever you need to accomplish your plans this year, no matter how impossible or crazy it seems, make that request to God. Turn it over to the Creator of the Universe who is on your side and who you work for, and see if He will not step in and perform a miracle in your favor.

As you go to God, remember that He is under no obligation to meet your request and it must be a request that is according to His will. Miracles are not substitutes to doing what we know do to, instead they complement what we do.  Joshua was prepared for battle and did all that He knew to do and believed God for what He alone could do. Are you prepared for the year? Then believe God for what He alone can do on your behalf. Maybe He will cause the sun to stand still for you too.

The Pursuit of Happiness by Patrice Tsague


Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.”

The American Declaration of Independence includes this famous line, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” One may argue that the term the pursuit of happiness is an empty slogan and the fuel behind our materialistic society. Since many entrepreneurs are in pursuit of happiness they believe that anything that will make them happy is their right to have.  Although this view of happiness is unscriptural, the writers of the Declaration of Independence were not totally off base when they used those terms. The Bible does teach about happiness, but within the context of it being something that is a divine favor from God as a result of our obedience to His Word and His will.

The word “happiness” comes from the word “blessed”. In His Sermon on the Mount, in what is commonly known as the Beatitudes, Jesus says, “blessed [or happy] are the poor in spirit, blessed [or happy] are those who mourn blessed [or happy] are the meek, and blessed [or happy] are those who thirst and hunger after righteousness“. We can therefore conclude that God does want us to be happy, but this happiness is the bi-product of a spiritual pursuit and not the end unto itself.  Happiness is not guaranteed; rather, it is a reward to those who do the will of the Father.

How do Biblical Entrepreneurs pursue this happiness? This happiness is attained by acquiring the following spiritual attributes taken from Matthew 5:3-11:

  1. Poor in spirit: Recognition of our spiritual poverty before God. We realize that we are incomplete; only He can enrich our lives and without Him we are miserable.
  2. Mourn:  to have feeling of grief. We must not be too proud but rather grieve before God for the unrighteousness around us so He may bring us comfort.
  3. Meek: Power under control. We must not use our advantage or talents to advance our own agenda but rather to protect and defend others.
  4. Hunger and thirst after righteousness: we must continuously demonstrate a strong desire for God and His Word.
  5. Mercy: A sense of compassion which leads to action. We must demonstrate compassion towards others, especially those who are suffering.
  6. Pure in heart: A singleness of focus before God and allowing his word to transform us on the inside.
  7. Peacemakers: We must be people who attempt to bring harmony and reconciliation to those who are estranged from God and others.
  8. Persecuted for righteousness sake: Allowing ourselves to suffer in the hands of those who do not know nor understand our Savior and His plan for our lives for the purpose of advancing the will of our Savior.

Do you still want to be happy? If so, covet after these things and happiness will be yours.

Seek First the Kingdom by Patrice Tsague


But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

To seek first the Kingdom of God is to desire God’s rule and God’s system above all. It is to allow God’s will to be done in every situation, no matter how challenging. A daily concern for many entrepreneurs is how they will make ends meet. How will we meet payroll? How we will pay the rent? How will we pay back the loan? How will we pay for the marketing campaign? Will we meet our revenue projections? Do we have enough savings in case of an emergency? These concerns can lead to worry, which can take away our peace, trust and reliance on the sovereignty of God to supply all of our needs by His riches in Glory through Christ Jesus. No matter how profitable the business is it is difficult not to be concerned about these things since money is the bloodline of business. In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus teaches us a unique approach to addressing these concerns.

Typically, we are taught that if we do not have resources to take care of our business and personal needs, we should devise a direct strategy to acquire these resources by any means necessary. But Jesus reminds us that that is the way of the world. It is the world that goes after things; it is the world that gets overly concerned about money.

Jesus instructs us not to worry about money. God is able to provide for the needs of the birds, which neither sow nor reap. Since you are more valuable than they are, will He not much more provide for you? The interesting thing about the example that Jesus gives in the Bible which states if a man does not work he shall not eat, and the principle of sowing and reaping, were put in place as a means to provide for our needs. Here is a bird that does not work, neither sows nor reaps, yet its needs are met. And what about you who work according to God’s plan for your life, will God not be able to meet your needs? He concludes by saying that after these things the Gentiles seek.

Gentiles are symbolic of worldly entrepreneurs who are overly concerned with how they will make ends meet. As a result of this concern, they commit all of their efforts and energies toward one thing; how to make money. Many of them are able to accomplish their objectives but with certain negative consequences. The world has its own methods on how to make money and accumulate things.  It is a science that has been developed throughout the ages and has been tested and proven. The problem is that it has not been able to remove the negative consequences.

Many of us who aspire to be Biblical Entrepreneurs are not ignorant of those strategies; we just choose not to employ those methods since they come with certain negative consequences. In my experience, most Biblical Entrepreneurs know how to make money; their problem is how to make money without the negative consequences.  These negative consequences include anxiety, lack of peace, lack of fulfillment, guilt, and physical and eternal death.  God has put natural principles in the earth realm that work both for the believer and the unbeliever. What is required of the Biblical Entrepreneur is to apply the natural principles without violating spiritual principles?  It almost seems as if the unbeliever has an unfair advantage because he is not required to apply spiritual laws since he is ignorant of them. While for the believer Jesus says, your strategy to make ends meet and even exceed your own expectation is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

As a Biblical Entrepreneur, you must not employ your own methods and strategies or lean to your own understanding, rather, you ought to first consider God’s will, and God’s way in the situation. In other words, do not follow your natural instincts which tend to be carnal, expedient and natural. Allow the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ to guide you as you do business. Let them direct your every decision. Let them guide your every step.

How do you do this you may ask? You do this by going to the Lord in prayer, operating your business by God’s principles, as well as seeking the council of those whom you trust to be men and women who are filled with the wisdom of God and trusting God for the results.

The evidence that you are seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness will be demonstrated by how much peace you experience in the midst of challenges and the demonstration of the fruit of the Spirit in your life.

Wait On the Lord by Patrice Tsague

Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket because you were trying to get somewhere in a hurry?  Before the days of electronic surveillance, speeding tickets meant being delayed an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour because of the time it took the police officer to fill out the necessary paper work. For those of us who have been victimized by this unjust act by the police, it always seems as though they were in no hurry to release you to get to your destination on time.  While you were in a hurry to get somewhere your disregard for the speed limit not only cost you money and points on your driver’s license but it made you get to your destination even later. Speed is not always the fastest way to get to your destination. Sometimes waiting gets us there faster.

Waiting is not exactly a common characteristic among entrepreneurs, especially those who are experiencing a level of financial success. There is a common saying in the market place that because time is money we must be hurried in everything we do. Actually there is no promise in scripture for those who hurry.

Speed and hurriedness breeds a lack of patience and discontentment. Why are you rushing? What is the urgency? What will happen if things do not happen when you want them to?  Many times we are in a hurry going nowhere;  persuaded of its empty promises. Waiting is a virtue. Waiting has clear rewards; it breeds patience, contentment and sure character.

What does it mean to wait on the Lord? It means to recognize your limitations. To distinguish between your pace and God’s pace and line up with God’s pace no matter what the circumstances. Waiting on the Lord means to completely surrender to God’s will for your life in every situation that you encounter. It is an unconditional commitment not to compromise God’s principles to achieve your objectives. It is refusing to achieve success or accomplish your objectives at whatever cost but rather depending solely on God for everything you accomplish. It is enduring and persevering under pressure and resistance.  It is following the speed limit even though you risk being late to your meeting.

Waiting on the Lord is not easy, because while you wait;  bills are due, time is ticking, the competitor is gaining ground, the window of opportunity seems to be closing, and others seem to be getting ahead of you. It seems as though while you wait you are losing ground. However it is merely a perception and not reality. It is a trick of the enemy to cause you to hurry and get speeding tickets or get into an accident. What happened the last time you hurried? Did you accomplish your objectives? Did you get what you wanted, probably not? Hurrying always gets us in trouble but waiting has some guaranteed rewards.

There are four benefits to waiting on the Lord:

  1. Your strength shall be renewed – Essential to success is resiliency.  Waiting creates an internal renewal of energy and spiritual virtues which gives you strength.
  2. You shall mount up with wings like eagles – Accomplishing your objectives not only requires strength but an ability to fly over obstacles and hindrances. Waiting gives you wings.
  3. You shall run and not be weary – energy is another key element to success.  Yes, waiting gives you the required element to function in the appropriate speed without being weary.
  4. You shall walk and not faint – Clarity is another key to success. The ability to press forward without losing focus is acquired while you wait.

Of course waiting does not mean doing nothing but rather it means growing. It is not being idle but rather it is being proactive in the right things. Waiting is doing the right things even though it may not yield immediate external rewards. Waiting is focusing on the internal private victories that will create a sure foundation for future public victories. It often seems that while we wait everyone else is moving forward and we are falling behind. However, just keep waiting because in due time your actions will yield supernatural results without much effort on your part. Your waiting will produce internal strength, flight ability, and supernatural energy with the right focus.

Waiting is key to the success of any kingdom business.  The alternative is disastrous and dangerous.  So go ahead and slow down and wait on the Lord.

Most entrepreneurs, when asked why they want to start a business, respond by saying, “So I can be my own boss and make some money.”  As Biblical Entrepreneurs, money should never be our motivation for being in business.  We should have the same motivation that God had as He sent His Son in the earth realm to start His business. God’s motivation was not money or a big organization, but love.  He could easily maintain love as His motivation because He knew that He owned everything and there was nothing else He needed to gain that He did not already have.

John 3:16 could be stated this way, “for God so loved sinful humanity that He started a global enterprise called Operation Rescue, Inc.”  This enterprise had one product called the Gospel or the good news.  He assigned His only begotten Son, Jesus, to serve as the CEO.  His goal is to recruit and train men who would lead this new enterprise and their mission is to seek and save the lost.   How can a Holy God love sinful humanity?  Does He not hate sin?

God was able to see the potential of humanity beyond its condition.  He saw what could be possible for humanity if someone was able to successfully rescue it from its current state.  That possibility so excited Him that faith kicked in and embraced love in an attempt to make that potential a reality.  God did that knowing that everyone would not accept His product and that among those who do, some would not appreciate it.  He rejoiced knowing that if only one person accepts and appreciates His product it would all have been worth it.  He did His market research and knew that enough people would accept His product to keep the business profitable.  His love compelled Him to believe in humanity more than it could believe in itself.

What is your motivation for being in business?  Are you motivated by love as God was, or are you motivated by money or gain?  Our motivation is what fuels our passion for the business. It drives us and inspires us to defy logic and move by faith to make the impossible possible. Our motivation helps us overcome the difficult times of business; it helps us overcome fear and ensures that we will not fail.  How do you know if you are motivated by love and not money?  Here are a few things to help you determine whether you are an entrepreneur who is motivated by love or money.

Holy Entrepreneurship: The True Gospel of Empowerment

Below is an excerpt from my latest article that I wrote for Brotha Online Magazine

As an inspirational speaker and business coach I get the wonderful opportunity to work and interact with many entrepreneurs and small business owners across the country. I am energized as I connect with people who are pursuing their dreams of personal economic empowerment. Even if their business is not where they desire it to be when we initially meet, hope gleams in their eyes and they have the expectation of a bright future.

There is also another group of people that I regularly encounter as I drive through certain parts of Atlanta on my way to meet a client or record my TV show. I see those who are living in impoverished conditions. I see many homeless people in addition to some who look like they may just be one step away from similar circumstances. What is worse is that a sense of hopelessness and despair hovers in the air and weighs on their faces.

In reality there is not much difference between these two groups of people. The first group feels personally empowered to change and improve their current state and the second group does not.  I do not want to oversimplify the plight of poverty, because many factors go into how someone ends up homeless or indigent. Nevertheless, people who feel empowered are usually able to garner the internal fortitude and external resources they need to chase their dreams and achieve their goals. That drive is even greater when people are also economically empowered to pursue their passions and their purpose.

The Only Place In the World That Has Never Had A Recession

And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” ~ Isaiah 58:11

The All-Knowing Creator of the Universe is able to dispense witty ideas and inventions to you that can produce revenues in any type of economy (Proverbs 8:12, Isaiah 48:17). So don’t allow the economic recession to also cause a faith recession in your mind.

In fact I believe this environment is perfect for God to demonstrate His incredible power and love by partnering with your faith to do something extraordinary and spectacular through your business. You thriving while others are barely surviving is a great testimony to unbelievers about the power of God.

Keep your focus on Him and He will teach your how to prosper know matter what is happening with others.
