Stand by Patrice Tsague

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. ~ Ephesians 6:13

by Patrice Tsague

Are you facing pressures that are seeking to push you back? Are you tempted to give up on the assignment the Lord has given you?

It is not uncommon for Biblical Entrepreneurs to face pressures that tempt them to want to give up or to question whether they should continue their business or the project they have undertaken. Success is never achieved without external resistance. Do not assume that just because your cause is righteous, everything and everyone will cooperate with you; actually, sometimes the more righteous your cause, the greater the external pressures.

How then should you respond when those external pressures continue to beat on you like a bad tornado? Just stand. Yes, just continue to resist them by remaining firm in your posture and focused on your direction. To stand means to rise to an upright position on your feet or as specified (freedictionary.com). The assumption here is that you are being attacked and pressured – not just because of what you are doing – but because of the righteous stands you are taking. Of course if you face pressure and do not have a righteous position, you will not be able to withstand the pressures because you do not have the strength of Christ on your side.

How do you stand in the midst of the pressures of business and ministry?

1. Rejoice in the Lord because the joy of the Lord is your strength.
2. Put on the whole armor of God – what is the armor?

  • Truth
  • Righteousness
  • Peace
  • Faith
  • Salvation
  • The Word of God
  • Prayer in the spirit

3. Know that you are in spiritual warfare
4. Boldly preach the Gospel

There will come a time of complete victory when you no longer feel the resistance – not because it does not exist – but because you have been so perfected by past pressures and your spiritual maturity is so great that you begin to view trials the way Apostle Paul viewed them. Here is what Paul said about his trials:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.

“Therefore I take pleasure in my infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecution, in distresses, for Christ’s sake for when I am weak then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10

May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you the desires of your heart, not just to stand, but to overcome so that you may be able to share His goodness in your circle of influence in the marketplace.

The Sun Stands Still by Patrice Tsague

At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped… ~ Joshua 10:12-13

by Patrice Tsague

Are you in need of a miracle?  Do you believe in miracles?  As Biblical Entrepreneurs, miracles must be a part of our worldview because they are a part of the strategy God uses in Scripture to advance His will.  These miracles can be considered God-Factors; incidents when God intervenes in the affairs of His chosen to accomplish His will.

In Joshua 10, there is a coalition of five kings who bond to defeat the children of Israel after learning how invincible they have been. Joshua and his army travel all night and without rest to go battle the five kings; he needs a miracle to ensure the kings’ defeat.  In the midst of the battle, Joshua prays to the Lord and declares, “‘Sun stand still over Gibeon; and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.’”  So the sun stands still and does not go down until Joshua completely destroys his enemies (Joshua 10:12b and 13).  Joshua needs a miracle; he asks for it and receives it.

Some argue that it is impossible for the sun to stand still therefore this story must not be true, but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).  If we can believe that there is a God who created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1), can we not believe that this same God can cause solar systems to act as He chooses?  Of course the sun does not move around the earth, rather the earth moves around the sun.  The sun stopped because there was a delay in the earth rotation which caused it to shine for an unusual long period of time, long enough for Joshua to accomplish his objectives and recognize that God granted his request.

What miracle are you in need of this year? Do you need significant cash infusion by a certain date? Do you need a significant increase in revenue? Do you need special favor with investors or the bank? Do you need special grace from your vendors or creditors? Do you need a certain sector of the economy to start performing? Do you need a certain government regulation to be passed? If He can cause the sun to stand still for Joshua, who knows what He can do for you? Whatever you need to accomplish your plans this year, no matter how impossible or crazy it seems, make that request to God. Turn it over to the Creator of the Universe who is on your side and who you work for, and see if He will not step in and perform a miracle in your favor.

As you go to God, remember that He is under no obligation to meet your request and it must be a request that is according to His will. Miracles are not substitutes to doing what we know do to, instead they complement what we do.  Joshua was prepared for battle and did all that He knew to do and believed God for what He alone could do. Are you prepared for the year? Then believe God for what He alone can do on your behalf. Maybe He will cause the sun to stand still for you too.

Can Anything Good Come Out of Nazareth? by Patrice Tsague

And Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.'” ~ John 1:46

by Patrice Tsague

Where are you from?  What family were you born in?  Are people surprised by your accomplishments due to your family background, place of birth, race or nationality?  Have you limited your scope due to these factors?  Have you ever asked the question, “Can anything good come out of….?”

Nathanael asks this question about Jesus when Phillip introduces Him as the prophet from Nazareth,  Philip’s response is, “Come and see.”

Prior to the birth of Christ, Nazareth was not an important part of the national and religious life of Israel. It had a bad reputation in morals and religious life. Even the Galilean language had a crudeness to it. Due to these factors, Nathanael is surprised that the Messiah would come from Nazareth or be identified by it. God has an interesting sense of humor. He chooses to bring greatness out of a place or person who seems unlikely; the less likely the human possibilities, the more likely the divine possibility.

The Lord laid upon our hearts to relocate the Nehemiah Project headquarters to Portland, Oregon in 2010. As we contemplated the move, we asked, “Why Portland?” Even after we moved, many who live in Portland asked us the same question. They are asking, in other words, “If you could move anywhere else in the country, why would you choose a place so liberal, so un-churched, one of the least ethnically diverse in the country, and one of the most hit economically. Can anything good come out of Portland?”

The good news is good things can come out of anyplace where God is present and there is a righteous remnant who are committed to His will. I ask all who are curious about “Why Portland?” to take a visit and see a city where, despite its challenges, God is moving in a dynamic way in the marketplace. From weekly small groups, to networking events, to philanthropy, to social transformation, to equipping His people, God is at work in Portland. Prophetically, Portland will serve as one of the model cities of what God can do when people come together across denominational, political and ethnic lines to bring community transformation for His glory.

I come from a well-to-do family in Cameroon, Africa; however, because I was born in Africa, viewed as rebellious and very playful by my family, relocated to America at a young age, did not speak English at all, did not go to seminary or have an MBA, many thought, “Can anything good come out of that boy?”  My response is, “Wait and see.”

What has held you back? Whom have you allowed to define your destiny?  No matter your origin, race, education,  or circumstances, if you commit your works to the Lord and trust Him with your life and business, He will do more through you than you can hope or imagine.  If it does not happen on this side of glory, wait until you get to heaven.  You will be amazed.

So the next time you are asked, “Can anything good come out of…?”  Just respond, “Wait and see.” As you prepare to celebrate this Christmas season, remember where our Savior came from, remember what He did, and remember His words, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father”  (John 14:12).

Benefits of Pleasing God by Patrice Tsague

When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
~ Proverbs 16:7

by Patrice Tsague

How would you like to make your worst enemy live at peace with you? Your enemy could be an in law, a competitor, a neighbor; anyone whom you have done your best to be kind to, but for some reason, no matter what you do, he or she seems to get more enraged with you. Your enemy may be determined to undermine you. No matter what you do, the person seems to be unsatisfied; it seems that his or her satisfaction will be to see you hurt or non-existent.

Romans 12:18 states, “if it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” This suggests that unfortunately no matter how hard you try, being at peace with all is in part dependent upon the other person’s willingness to cooperate. What do we then do when the other person is not willing to cooperate? In such instances, we should focus our attention on pleasing God and allow Him to fight our battles for us.

Pleasing God has many benefits, which include:

  • He will give you the desires of your heart
  • He will give you eternal life
  • He will provide for you
  • He will cause you to live at peace with your enemies
  • And much more

Let us focus on the aspect of being at peace with our enemies. Why is this benefit so important for the Biblical Entrepreneur? Our enemies can be a distraction, they can be a temptation, and they can take us off our game. No matter how spiritual you are, an enemy who is persistent may eventually wear on you because he may employ ungodly methods against you while you are limited to only using strategies that honor the Lord in your dealings with him. Unfortunately, when some of us are fed up, we take matters into our own hands so we are not perceived as being a weak Christian. This is unacceptable because when we take matters into our own hands, we fight battles ourselves when the Bible states that “the battle is not ours it is the Lord’s” (I Samuel 17:47).

When we have done all we can to make peace with our enemies to no avail, let us focus our energies on pleasing the Lord with all of our hearts so He may fight our battles. Who have you been trying to make peace with to no avail? Turn your focus on pleasing God and watch Him supernaturally turn their hearts around.

Pleasing God by Patrice Tsague

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
~ Hebrews 11:6

by Patrice Tsague

All entrepreneurs understand the importance of building and maintaining satisfied customers as a critical component to building a successful business. As important as it is to please our customers, the greatest aim of the Biblical Entrepreneur should be to please God, not the customer. You can please the customer and not please God. If you please God you will most likely also please the customer, and even if you do not, God will work it together for your good. We all aspire to please God but at times we struggle to understand how to please Him. We ask ourselves questions such as: is it possible to please God? Do I have to follow all Ten Commandments to please Him? How can an imperfect creation please Perfection?

Pleasing God seems like an impossible task so many of us give up or just “shoot in the dark” and hope we make it. There is no simple formula or recipe to pleasing God but it is also not a mystery.

Hebrew 11:6 teaches us that “…without faith it is impossible to please Him“. In Matthew 25:14-31 there are three servants who  each receive talents from their master; two please the master and one does not. We usually believe that the one servant does not please his master because he does not steward his talent profitably. The servant’s lack of profitability leads to the master’s disappointment but is not the reason why the master is not pleased with him. I believe he could have pleased the master even if he had lost the talent. The reason why this servant does not please his master is because he lacks faith.

Due to his lack of faith, he does not exercise any effort to put His talent to use. His lack of faith creates room for fear, which drives him to take the path of least resistance and hide his talent. His lack of faith demonstrates distrust for his master who, in giving him the talent, ensures that he has the ability to use it profitably. His inaction demonstrates that he does not believe he has the ability his master thinks he has. Everything the servant does is based on his flesh and Romans 8:8 states that “those that are in the flesh cannot please God“.

Faith is an unconditional trust in something or someone that leads us to act against conventional wisdom or defy logic. Faith is action based on our convictions. Faith moves us, contrary to our physical senses, into the realm of the supernatural which is contrary to the flesh. Without it, it is impossible to please God.

Our faith must be based on the teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God is spirit and without faith we cannot be in tune with His will. The servant who does not please God is not in tune with God’s will since he lacks faith. His lack of faith causes him to “play it safe” and preserve what he has in an attempt to protect himself against possible loss or danger. Had the servant exercised faith, he would have risked what he had with the knowledge that if he loses it, it will take him into a path of discovery and greater intimacy with his master.

Are your current actions pleasing to God? Have you been operating out of faith or fear? Are you being led by the Spirit or by the flesh? Take a leap of faith into a journey of discovery and intimacy so you may please your Master, for “without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

For God So Loved the World by Patrice Tsague

For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” ~ John 3:16

by Patrice Tsague

Most entrepreneurs, when asked why they want to start a business, respond by saying, “So I can be my own boss and make some money.”  As Biblical Entrepreneurs, money should never be our motivation for being in business.  We should have the same motivation that God had as He sent His Son in the earth realm to start His business. God’s motivation was not money or a big organization, but love.  He could easily maintain love as His motivation because He knew that He owned everything and there was nothing else He needed to gain that He did not already have.

John 3:16 could be stated this way, “for God so loved sinful humanity that He started a global enterprise called Operation Rescue, Inc.”  This enterprise had one product called the Gospel or the good news.  He assigned His only begotten Son, Jesus, to serve as the CEO.  His goal is to recruit and train men who would lead this new enterprise and their mission is to seek and save the lost.   How can a Holy God love sinful humanity?  Does He not hate sin?

God was able to see the potential of humanity beyond its condition.  He saw what could be possible for humanity if someone was able to successfully rescue it from its current state.  That possibility so excited Him that faith kicked in and embraced love in an attempt to make that potential a reality.  God did that knowing that everyone would not accept His product and that among those who do, some would not appreciate it.  He rejoiced knowing that if only one person accepts and appreciates His product it would all have been worth it.  He did His market research and knew that enough people would accept His product to keep the business profitable.  His love compelled Him to believe in humanity more than it could believe in itself.

What is your motivation for being in business?  Are you motivated by love as God was, or are you motivated by money or gain?  Our motivation is what fuels our passion for the business. It drives us and inspires us to defy logic and move by faith to make the impossible possible. Our motivation helps us overcome the difficult times of business; it helps us overcome fear and ensures that we will not fail.  How do you know if you are motivated by love and not money?  Here are a few things to help you determine whether you are an entrepreneur who is motivated by love or money.

A Biblical Entrepreneurship Solution to Poverty

The Census Bureau just reported that in 2009 the poverty rate for all Americans jumped to 14.3%, the highest rate since 1994. And the 43.6 million Americans that fit this category is highest number in 51 years. According to analysts from the Brookings Institution, poverty is expected to continue climbing, reaching a high of about 16%, over the next 10 years. If this holds true, another 10 million Americans – including 6 million children – will be in poverty by then (Source: CNNMoney).

This is a very challenging situation for every American because poverty doesn’t just impact those in poverty, but the rest of our society who are called upon to support them through taxes paid to the government.

One solution for this crisis is morally-based with an economic twist. Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE) is a spiritual approach to business that provides a strong mix of Biblical principles and business best practices. BE teaches people how to do business God’s way with God’s resources to get God’s results. Biblical Entrepreneurs learn how to morally operate and grow sustainable businesses, create jobs, and empower people with critical skills that result in enriched lives and transformed communities.

Next week Nehemiah Project International Ministries’s Biblical Entrepreneurship Conference is taking place in Atlanta, GA. NPIM Weekend is an annual celebration for Biblical Entrepreneurs and other Christian business owners to learn, network, and grow. Some dynamic Christian speakers and business leaders will be there to present a Biblical perspective on business with a specific focus on entrepreneurship.

Learn more or register for Nehemiah Weekend at http://nehemiahproject.org/events-npim-week.htm

There is a viable solution to the poverty problem. We just need to start looking in a place that hasn’t been widely considered.
